Role Playing

Alright if you are reading this it is not because you are terrible or anything. These are just some simple tips to make you a better
"RP"er and to be a little less confusing to some other players.

When you are 'in character' you are playing the character not yourself. There are a couple ways to do this.

Way 1: OK

*Walks around then sees a friend* Hey Jarid! How are you? //I wonder if he wants to hang out...//

This is a pretty simple way for role play. The actions are in between ** while dialogue is just typed. Thoughts are made different by either putting them between // or bold.

Way 2: Great

*Walks around the park calmly enjoying the sunshine and the cool breeze. She spots her best friend and crush Jarid.* Hey Jarid! How are you? //I wonder if he would like to hang out or something...//

This is like way one but with more detail in the sentences. Actions are still in ** dialogue is still typed and thoughts are in // or bold.

Way 3: Best

Jen walks around the park calmly enjoying the morning sunshine and the soft, cool breeze. She spots her best friend and secert crush Jarid. "Hey Jarid! How are you?" I wonder if he would like to hang out or something...[/b]

This way is like you are writing a book. Here you put even more detail and try to make more complex sentences. Also grammar and capitalization. Actions are no longer in ** And dialogue is in "" thought are more commonly bold or in italics but can be in // too.

I know we all dread this in school but it does make things easier to read.

Capitalization

Please try to capitalize your names, names of others, places, and things of importance. This makes you look like you care and are not lazy. Simple right?

Spelling

Please attempt to spell things correctly. Its ok if you make small mistakes but if you try and spell something like Capital and it comes out: Kapetle thats not good. We do have spell check or you could look at a dictionary. I know typos happen so just modify and fix. Also if you aren't sure you spelt it right just put (< Sp ?). Makes life easier.

Grammar

Ok grammar does count too. Try not to be a comma freak or not use it at all. Apostrophies help too. I need to get in the habit of using them to so don't feel bad if you don't. Just try to remember. Also slang is ok once in a while but seriously who can understand: Yo dawg wassup ya jus chillin' 'caus' thats rad. Ya no. Also text talk is a no no for In character.

Text talk: Hey wat r ru doin? look i g2g c u l8er.

Just don't please.

Out of Character is when you say something, not your character.

When you talk out of character on RP boards put your words in () to show that it's not your character speaking. Anything in () cannot be heard by any characters.

Ex:

Jen smiled shyly at Jarid (Does Jarid like her back?)

Jarid waved at Jen (Yeah he does just bad at showing it)

or

Jen sat on the swing sadly.

Jarid walked passed then stopped and went to sit next to her (Hey)

Jen looked up then away (Hey what's up?)

In General board it is alway OOC so you do not need to put () there. In OOC you can use text talk but use it sparingly.

I know we hear about this all the time but its really annoying! I consider spam all of the following:

-Less than 3 words in a post
-Only OOC in a post
-Saying something totally off subject
-Doing something totally off subject
-A fat filled food in a can
-Unrealistic behavior.

So please don't spam! You can do most of this in the general board! Just please don't spam all over the Role Play boards!
